The plentiful activities, diverse services, and events make Ylläs a unique holiday destination. The fells offer amazing experiences throughout the year. Ylläs Fell is located in the heart of two Lapland villages, with the Ylläs Ski Resort on both sides, offering direct access to the slopes of Ylläs Fell. With a single lift ticket, you can enjoy skiing on the slopes of both villages. Ylläs is the largest ski resort in Finland by size, offering unmatched slope lengths and elevation differences, which are not found in any other Finnish ski resort. YLLÄS WINTER
Ylläs is especially known for its winter season, which typically lasts from November to April. During winter, you can enjoy snowy landscapes and try various activities such as husky safaris, snowmobiling, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, and snowshoeing.
Ylläs is famous as a cross-country skiing paradise – there are trails for both beginners and experienced skiers. If downhill skiing or snowboarding is more your style, you can ski on both sides of Ylläs Fell. We also offer ski-in cottages right near the slopes.
One of the biggest attractions in the area is the Northern Lights. The light show in the sky starts in the fall and continues throughout the long winter. The colder and clearer the weather, the better the chances of admiring the Northern Lights.
YLLÄS SPRING
In spring, you can still enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and sunny snowy hikes in Ylläs until May. Snow usually begins to melt around the time of Vappu (May Day). Ylläs spring is enchanting, with the warmth of the sun and the sparkle of the snow.
YLLÄS SUMMER
Summer brings beautiful blooming landscapes and opportunities to enjoy the area’s pristine lakes and fell streams. Popular activities in summer include cycling, fishing, kayaking, hiking, horseback riding, and disc golf. Ylläs was named the best fell biking destination in 2019, with routes for both beginners and experts. Ylläs Bike Park offers the longest Bike Park trails in Finland. Take the gondola up and ride down from the summit of Ylläs Fell. There are trails for all levels. At the bottom of the slope, there is a pump track where you can bike, skate, or scoot for free.
During the midnight sun, the sun never sets, even at midnight. Experience this amazing phenomenon in the comfort of your own cabin or join a Midnight Sun walk.
YLLÄS AUTUMN
Autumn at Ylläs is the season of spectacular fall colors, when the forests and fells are painted in beautiful shades of yellow, orange, and red. Hiking and nature walks provide an unforgettable experience in the crisp air, surrounded by the vibrant hues of nature. The Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park offers around 500 km of marked summer trails, perfect for both short day trips and long hikes. As the evenings grow darker, it’s a great time to look up at the sky and spot the beautiful Northern Lights. Great spots for aurora watching include the shores of Äkäslompolo and Kesänkijärvi lakes or the shore of Ylläsjärvi. Many of our cabins also offer a perfect view of the Northern Lights from their yards.
